The story of how Mario was born, is something that some may know but for those who don't, here it is.
In the times when Nintendo was struggling to survive in the industry trying to create a game that could grab the attention of the public and make them not die trying, they decided to try to develop a Popeye-themed video game that had a story where Popeye has to save Olivia from the bad guy, the problem is that the company did not have the rights to use Popeye's image and the person in charge of creating this video game Shigeru Miyamoto said, well, no big problem, I create new characters that simply have the same relationship, there is a bad guy, a princess in trouble and El Salvador! and this is how the Donkey Kong game was born and the Hero of this video game would be Jumpman, what we know today as Mario.
At that time, he was not a plumber, he was a carpenter (because the theme was to build, and destroy more like a carpenter) this happened in the year 1981 and this same character came up with the idea of reinventing him, creating his own video game by changing various aspects. Along the way as the profession and the name Mario with the characteristic costume of red and blue colors helped to contrast with the background and like this first special Mario game, it was also thought that it would be multiplayer so another character was added that was similar and that's how Luigi was born.
Since its launch, different versions have been released, and they have been adapted to other game modes that are not only platforms, for example, racing! ultimately becoming one of the best-selling franchises in history.
Now if we want to talk a bit about what it is to adapt a video game to a movie this is not uncommon, if we consider live-action versions in the past we have already had many movies such as Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, more recently Uncharted, but the difference with this type of video game is that usually, they do have a story to develop. For example: in Resident Evil, you only adapt a story that is planned for the player to make decisions to a story where the decisions are already made by the characters themselves.
But what about video games that don't really have a story and it's just repetition?
Let's take movies like Sony, Angry Birds, and now Mario as an example. The advantages and disadvantages of adaptations of these types of films are that there is a lot of freedom for the story, you simply take familiar elements of the game from the characters and create something different, which the fans may love or hate, there is no middle ground beside. to add the strategy of always bringing an actor that everyone knows and loves to attract attention, in this case, the Mario movie is going to have Jack Black and nobody is going to complain.
This is in general in terms of video game movies but in case you don't know the fact, this is not the first Mario movie and it is curious because Mario has what is considered the first movie based on a video game. Data from the year 1986, it is animated, and released in Japan it was very difficult to find this film but thanks to technology and video restoration you can find the film for free in good quality on YouTube.
I will leave it here for you to see:
Finally, the film that is going to be released in the following year would be the third film adaptation and not much is known yet since it is going to be released in April we have a trailer, and everyone has probably seen it, but we still lack information, there is even a rumor that there's going to be one or another musical act in the movie that makes sense. It's an animated movie so it will be as popular with young children who are just seeing Mario for the first time as adults who played the first game at the time.
